About the Owner

       Hello, my name is Shawnda Washington, and I'm the owner of Shawnda's Elderly Care. I started this Company in 2008 with my two sisters alongside supportive friends and other equally supportive family members. It has been a labor of love for the past 11 years.   

        I got into this business because I understood first hand the frustrations of caring for a loved one struggling with health problems. In 1996 my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer. There were crucial decisions that had to be made all while watching her lay in a hospital bed day-by-day fighting for her life. I had to deal with the constant anxiety of knowing that each decision I made would have to be the right one. I have dealt with the daily responsibilities of making decision after decision, wondering if I was making the best choice for my mother. I dealt with the overwhelming feeling of helplessness while having to hold it together for the sake of the family. Sadly, my mother lost her battle against cervical cancer, and she passed away in December of 1999. However, it gives me a great sense of peace knowing that the decisions that were made were not only made in love, but were the right ones for her. 

     My experience in caring for my mother, and also for other family members throughout the years with failing health issues, inspired me to obtain my Medical Assistant degree. It is my wish to show the same compassion and love that I showed for my family to others in need of assistance. My personal experience throughout the years combined with an extensive education in these matters help to ease the burden for my clients and their family members. 

     Shawnda’s Elderly Care (SEC) is a family business with likeminded employees who are very passionate about the care we provide. For 11 years, friends and families have entrusted my family business alongside a dedicated team of caregivers to provide the kind of care your loved one deserves.

Our experienced team provides personalized health care in the comfort of you or your loved one's home and/or facility. We specialize in daily care and living assistance which can include an array of services to our clients such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation ,grooming, exercise, assistance with administered medications, and toileting. Whether  you need daily or weekly assistance due to aging, illness, recovery, or rehabilitation, our caregivers will provide an individualized service plan that you or your loved one can trust.

Personal, Flexible Care

We understand that no two individuals are alike. Each of our clients benefits from a care plan tailored to their specific needs. Daily services can range from meal preparation and cleaning to hygiene and supervision. We take the time to get to know you and develop an individualized care plan that fits your specific needs. As your needs evolve, we reevaluate and adapt our services accordingly.

We provide one-on-one attention and care that is often unavailable in hospital and retirement homes.

Services

Post-Hospital Aftercare

Recovering at home after receiving medical care can limit your daily activities. Whether you are recovering from surgery, a medical illness, or trauma, our compassionate caregivers  assist you and your loved ones as you complete your recovery. We also offer trained physical therapist technicians to ensure your recovery .

 

Physical Disability Support

Arthritis, physical disabilities, surgery related injuries, and age-related conditions are some of the circumstances that prevent our clients from caring for themselves. Our caregivers can assist you with daily tasks such as mobility, eating, exercising, and grooming.

 

Care for Dementia & Alzheimer's Patients

Our experienced Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA's) provide the highest quality of care. Our goal is to help individuals and their loved ones live happy and fulfilling lives while improving memory skills related to dementia & Alzheimer's. We take great care to help our clients retain a sense of dignity and independence. As situations change, we can flexibly accommodate the needs of the individual client and their family.
